And we begin...

Once I started to look deeper, I was pleased to find the internet swimming in creative ideas, lesson plans and suggestions.

The Kindness Club was to be run as one of the lunch time enrichment clubs and 16 girls had already signed up.

In our first meeting we had a great chat about what we thought the Kindness Club could be and why we thought it was important.

Peel the Fruit

I gave each child a mandarin and asked the girls to draw some identifying features on their fruit. We then placed the fruit in the centre and the girls had to identify their own piece.

It was easy to identify their mandarin.

They then peeled the fruit and placed it in the centre again. They could not identify their own piece.

We discussed the fact the fruit was all the same on the inside. Just like us!

One of the children was the first one to draw the conclusion…

“it’s like us, we are all different on the outside but all the same on the inside.

another comment...

" we all want to be treated the same.

It was a really positive first meeting, the children were so enthusiastic and full of suggestions and as usual, the depth of comments impressed me.

Thanks to Education World.com for their great article, 10 Social Justice Activities to try in Class.

Has your class ever pondered the fact that we are all the same on the inside and that deep down we all want to be treated the same?

Big messages for little people!
